The veils:
Finn Andrews fronts one of the robust bands of which has surprise, surprise found more fame and fortune in the big wide world. I would call Andrews the dictator of the band; He has previously kicked his band mates out of the band to pursue the sound of bottled madness we know as The Veils. With a sound reminiscent of the Doors and the Editors, The Veils make discontent indie music which makes one wonder if Andrews belongs in another time. Below the surface of Andrew’s cool exterior lies a rebellious soul wanting his music to if not touch you at least wake you up to your own feelings. “Jesus for the Jugular” is an untamed tiger, waiting to pounce on ones rage, whilst listening to the song I wanted to stand on a windy cliff and yell abuse about all the wrong doings in my life. “Advice for young mothers to be” is a shiny, glossy song, the choruses a candidate for camp fire sing-along. The few opening bars of “calliope” are breezy and the beat uplifting. The lyrics are reassuring and trigger my need for reassurance. It’s like a seesaw of emotion. Which may I make a note I didn’t even know I had.
Andrews may be the new Nick cave. The veils are not for the light hearted and complacent. They will stir up feelings of rejection and chaos, but they will also make you feel its ok to feel this, your not the only one, they hold your hand through the whole CD, reminding you they have been there and they came out fine didn’t they?
