Those dancing days

Those Dancing Days:

If Amy Winehouse spawned a Lovechild with Mike Love from the beach boys, then introduced this (let’s name her Linnea) to an Indie band it would be “Those Dancing Days” with northern soul and girl group influences. But Linneas vocal range is capable to do so much more that Amy Winehouse is left 3 hours out of Stockholm with nothing but a hitchhikers thumb. She is strong, sultry and capable of holding a note. “Those dancing days” achieves cuteness and indie-ness, scruffy-ness and did I mention indie? All while being polished and accomplished. Lets be honest, being part of a girl band comes with a stereo type but these girls break free with the measured, mature vocals, the trebly Hammond organ.

These girls are commercial yes, chart pop, definitely. But they still hold on to the edge missing from chart pop that we all crave. Those dancing days (the song) is like a theme for indie kids on the way to the carnival. Slightly careless but the beat toe tapping. 1000 days: pulls you to days of old, with commotion pulling on your heart strings. The latest single “hitten” (Swedish for hit, there’s that confidence) has the potential to be a indie kids break up song, with the under laying tones of guilt mixed with gentle turbulent confusion, what with lyrics like “Now I know What I'm thinking what I'm feeling What I want my life to be Now I know how I plan to make things easier For everyone including me it might be a whole generations break up song.

Yes they may not be every ones cup of tea, I’ll admit that. But these five girls from Sweden make music which pokes at tear ducts make you feel good and all the while bop along. Yes they are young and may be in need of some slight polishing, but I see a future of more best act prizes and fortune. Add them to your Myspace.
