Coco Solid-live Friday the 21st-Fu.

Coco solid:

The Rampant Electro rap mixed with Miami/detroit Booty bass had always got me wishing I could pull off being a Gurl rapper with a sidekick who speaks in Monotone. Coco Solid's 1st album came out in 2003. And since then its been a Career of hustle and bustle, with a stint at the Barcelona red bull music academy and a Bnet award in 2007 for "best hip hop".

As we were walking to Fu there were many a person stubbing out a cigette and rushing to the doors with loud protests of having to wait so long to get in, and questions of who was on and if they had missed the head act, Coco Solid. So we waited. 40 minutes to be extact. and we managed to catch the last half of the set. GRRRRRR MUCH!

Coco solid know how to play on sexual Bravado with confidence using seamless ryhmes and beats that have one wondering how they do it. The lyrics are full of humor and political naughtyness. With a sprikle of unpredictable clatter. I danced I laughed and the present of the "Auckland scene semi-circle" wasn't present which is rather unusal.

The way Coco and her side kick Erik interact is like a marriage still flowing over the brim of love, love for the game and the music they make. There was one hiccup when either the dj (the talanted Mister Han baby ) or Erik got a lil confused, this was no feat for Coco as she pulled everyone in line with out missing the beat, whilst disecting gig with freinds no one, but me had even realised. Maybe the free beer had started to take affect?

She has flow, she has the image down and with lyrics like "your decaf dumb, your mum is your mum" and views such as " I don't have to play that game because the Incestuous New zealand music scene isn't the hand that feeds me" shes not out to prove anything, to impress anyone, she won't be swapping sexual favours for a mention on the next big names myspace page. Thus making me think this girl isn't just incredibility talented but also has her head screwed on properly.

Shes playing in a "boys world" and winning. Sucks to be anyone trying to break into the electrorap genre cause these guys set a very high bar.
